In 1972 Walter and Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr founded The Verdehr Trio (violin-clarinet-piano) at Michigan State University. At that time the repertoire for this ensemble included a small number of excellent works by major composers Milhaud, Bartok, Stravinsky, Ives, Berg, Krenek, and Khatchaturian. Since 1977, the Verdehrs, with the support of Michigan State University, have commissioned well over 200 pieces for the Trio, including double and triple concertos. They have also arranged and commissioned transcriptions of nearly 30 classic and romantic works.
The Making of a Medium CD Series and The Making of a Medium TV Series are continuing longterm projects for recording major works written for the Trio, and parallel The Making of a Medium Music Series. These series combine efforts to make this repertoire accessible worldwide. Information about the repertoire and recordings is available at www.verdehr.com. CDs are available directly from crystalrecords.com and the DVDs from suchmedia.com
